2010

I know I'm two months into celebrating the new year, but here goes. Whoo!

We launched Gredunza Press around a year ago this time as a social network for people to post their work and have it be viewed and worked on by others. In September, we launched our official site, and offered our services for hire.

We're continuing into 2010 with some great momentum. Over the last two months, I've tinkered our approach somewhat. You've probably noticed the blog become more advice-oriented rather than focusing on publishing stories. We still post what we believe are interesting stories in the business on our twitter feed (you can see it over on the left at the bottom), we just don't comment on them anymore. We don't want to sway your opinion of things so much as just informing you of what we think is worth reading.

We also haven't done a podcast in over a month. That's my fault. We're moving offices so we put interviews on hold. But they'll resume in March, so keep that subscription going.

Services

This week we're making our publishing services available. You can check them out by clicking on the individual links to your left. We're really excited to offer these, and we hope people will find them to be helpful and affordable.

We put a lot of research into what we should charge, which services we should offer, and what authors needed more than anything. We found that generally authors are pretty good at writing, so we don't offer ghostwriting, for example. We also noticed authors tend to need some services and not others, which is why we don't have any sort of packages. Also, we think packages are pretty lame, especially when they cost thousands of dollars and don't really give you anything. Instead, we have combos, which are essentially 2 out of 3 of our services with a discounted price.

We also wish to be completely transparent about our services, so we will be providing an FAQ with popular questions provided by our clients and prospective clients. For example, I'm sure people are curious exactly how we go about, say, the layout process. Basically, we will discuss the type of book the client wants to make, choose the application that gives the best output (we generally work with InDesign and QuarkXPress), and deliver the client both the finished product and all the RAW files. We keep nothing from the client.

Once again, we're very excited to be offering these services, and look forward to working with authors to make the best books possible.

Our Series

The first thing you'll see on our navigation bar is "The Guide," which includes Blog, Audio, and Video series. These blogs and podcasts will eventually collect enough information, advice, links, and interviews that authors will have a great place to learn, browse, and be entertained by all aspects of the publishing industry.

First, the blog. Four to five times a week, I'll be posting links to various news stories we think you should know about. We'll also be posting interviews, discussions, and polls. Basically, it's a blog about books and the book industry.

Secondly, the audio series is our spoken-word podcast, where we dive into subjects that require more depth. We also do interviews.

Lastly, the audio series will act as both a spotlight on ideas as well as advice for new authors.
